Constructing Worker Housing in Noamundi with Prefab Technology
The Case
The primary requirement of the customer was to provide adequate labor accommodation for the burgeoning workforce involved in the iron ore processing plant expansion project in Noamundi, Jharkhand. With Noamundi as a pivotal hub for mining activities, the influx of workers necessitated modern, comfortable living spaces to support their daily operations and ensure optimal productivity.
The Challenges
Material Procurement Challenges
The Nest-In team faced a challenge while obtaining finishing materials due to the project location. As the site was situated on the outskirts of the city, material procurement was difficult, which hampered project timelines. The need to source quality materials efficiently and promptly was critical to ensure the smooth progression of the construction process.

As the project was near a mining site, the blasting operations posed intermittent disruptions. These activities occasionally halted work progress, requiring strategic planning to mitigate delays and maintain project timelines. The Solution
To resolve these challenges, Nest-In emphasised innovation and efficiency. It leveraged prefabricated panels for construction, which not only accelerated the construction process, but also enhanced the quality of the structure. These panels were manufactured off-site in a factory-controlled environment and transported to the site. This way, the Nest-In team was able to speed up construction timelines, minimise disruption caused by blasting operations, and simplify construction material procurement.
The Result
The project unfolded in two distinct phases, each meticulously planned and executed to meet the evolving requirements of the customer. Phase 1 aimed at worker accommodation construction for 1200 people, and Phase 2 was focused on extending the worker accommodation capacity to accommodate 500 people more. With an organised and streamlined construction process, the Nest-In team was able to deliver the labour accommodation facilities within the project timelines.
