Prefab vs RCC: Which Construction System Actually Delivers More Value?
Construction decisions in India are almost always made on a single number: cost per square foot at tender. It is the easiest metric to compare and, in practice, one of the least useful for understanding what a project will actually cost by the time it is occupied and operational.
A genuine value comparison between prefab and RCC needs to look further. Across five dimensions - timeline, cost predictability, structural performance, quality consistency and lifecycle value - the full picture is considerably different from what the opening quote suggests.
Five Dimensions Worth Comparing
1. Timeline
RCC construction is sequential by nature. Each phase waits on the previous one and weather disruptions compound delays at every stage. 4. Quality Consistency
On a conventional RCC site, quality depends on who supervised the pour, whether curing conditions were maintained and whether materials were substituted under cost pressure. The result is variability that is difficult to detect before handover and expensive to remedy after.
